Sam: No, I think I’m okay for now. When do I have to return the book.
Librarian: We need to get the book back by Friday.
Make off with something: take or steal something
John: What happened?
Sam: I’m sad. A thief made off with my camera. Must’ve stole it right out of my bag when I was walking around.
John: You may have to report it to the police.
Take off: leave a place (by car, on foot, or by plane)
Flight Attendant: Flight 1612 bound for Tokyo will take off in the next 10 minutes. Please sit back, fasten your seatbelts, and we will be in the air shortly. Thank you for flying with us.
In a hurry: rushed: need to move quickly.
Jim: Sorry, can’t talk now. Have to catch the last train.
Sam: Okay, see you tomorrow.
After a while: Later; a short time later
Noriko: Where is your friend?
Jim: I think he’ll come after awhile.
Noriko: I hope so. I’m hungry.
