Well-spoken English is your ticket to the world—and beyond.

We are from New York and London, but that is not important.

Where you are from and where you want to go is.

At SEI, we apply our expertise in English to helping you tell your story and achieve your goals, because that will be more interesting to you, and that means you will learn your lessons better.

We will use materials in the course descriptions and others that are not, but to keep you talking we will teach you English according to what you say when we inspire and prompt you.

We have been satisfying students for more than forty years combined, and that is what we want to do for you, first by making you comfortable, next by bringing the English out of you, so you take your ticket to the world and beyond—which is English itself.

You will remember the English you practice here, because your American teacher uses a rhythmic method of learning sentences and phrases. He also uses drawing, humor and numerous, simple and explicit descriptions and voices, so you can understand more easily, building your confidence that you can learn English without Japanese, which strengthens your English memory and usage.

You will talk more in these classes, too, so the result is your story, your ideas, your school, work and travel English will become more natural, and you can learn to speak English in your own words.

Meet your teacher.

We will give you the confidence, opportunity and skills to speak like a native

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my welcome message. I’m Carl Atteniese, a third-generation American born and educated in the northeastern United States, and a native English-speaking teacher with TEFL/TESOL certification. While qualifications are important, what matters most is helping you develop the confidence and skills to speak English naturally, like a native speaker. That is a goal worth working toward.

I have taught English for about 30 years in New York City, Princeton, New Jersey, South Korea, and Japan, and I have received wonderful feedback from many of my students. My aim is to help you feel comfortable, rediscover the English you thought you had forgotten, and introduce you to new ways of learning that you may never have experienced before. It's easier than you think.

Through a combination of engaging teaching methods, expressive explanations, illustrations, and practical exercises, I'll help you build confidence and move closer to your goals. This is what I love to do.

You may be surprised by how much progress you can make—and how much fun we can have along the way. Like many of my students, you probably know more English than you realize. You may simply have never had a teacher who helped you recognize your abilities and feel confident using them. That's what I'm here to do.

So enrich your life by learning to speak English with confidence, and open the door to a world of new possibilities. I'm here to help you take that first step. All you have to do is come to SEI and start talking.

ENGLISH

One aspect of the Japanese work environment that is interesting to me is the constant need to do overtime work. Now, I know not all companies in Japan have overtime standards, but there are many that do.
