The other day, one of our students had a question about the differences between must, might, and have to. Well, here are a few differences between them.
（先日、生徒さんから、must, might, have toの違いについて質問がありました。
ここでは、その違いについて説明します）
❶Must
“Must” is mostly used to express certainty. It can also be used to explain need or recommendation.
“Must”はほぼ確実に起きること、正確なことを表現するときに使われます。また、必要性があることや、助言や勧告の時にも使われます。
Ex 1) This must be the right place! (This expresses certainty)
ここは正しい場所に違いない！（これは正確性を表しています）
Ex 2) Students must pass an entrance examination to study at this school. (This expresses need)
生徒たちはこの学校で勉強するために、入学試験に合格しなくてはいけない（合格する必要がある）。
（これは必要性を表しています）
If you’re sick, you must take some medicine. (This expresses recommendation)
もし、あなたが病気なら、薬を飲まなくてはいけない（これは勧告を表しています）
❷Might
“Might” is mostly used to express a possibility.
“Might”は可能性を表す時によく使われます
Ex) Your bag might be in the other room. (This expresses possibility)
あなたのかばんは他の部屋にあるだろう。（これは可能性を表しています）
❸Have to
“Have to” is very similar to “must,” but many speakers use this expression more.
“Have to”は”must”にとても近い表現ですが、この他の表現でもよく使われます
Ex) This solution has to be correct. (This explains certainty)
この結論は正しいに違いない（これは正確性を表しています）
The stew has to be stirred continuously to prevent burning. (This explains necessity)
このシチューは焦げないように、ずっとかき回していないといけない（これは、必要性を表しています）
They have to leave early to catch the last train. (This explains obligation)
彼らは、終電に乗るために早く出発しないといけない（これは義務を表しています）
