間違えやすい英語について、生徒さんがこんな質問をお持ちでしたので、こんな風にお答えしようと思っています。
What is the difference between “who,” “whom,” and “whose?”
「”who,” “whom,” and “whose?の違いはなんですか？」
❶Who
Used to ask which person does a particular action or which person is acting a certain way.
特定の行動をする人物、またはある方法で行動をしている人物について尋ねるときに使われます。
Ex)
Who made dinner last night?
誰が昨夜夕飯を作ったのですか？
Who is in the living room?
リビングにいるのは誰ですか？
Who is going to help me clean the house?
家を掃除するのを手伝ってくれるのは誰ですか？
❷Whom
Used when asking which person RECEIVES an action.
動作の受け手を尋ねるときに使われます。
Ex)
Whom are you going to invite to the event?
そのイベントに誰を招待するつもりですか？
Whom did she blame for the situation?
その状況について、彼女は誰を非難したのですか？
Whom did he hire to do the job?
その仕事をするために誰を雇ったのですか？
❸Whose
Used to find out which person an item belongs to.
物の所有者を表す時に使われます。
Ex)
Whose bag is this?
これは誰のかばんですか？
Whose car is parked outside?
そとに駐車しているのは誰の車ですか？
Whose phone keeps ringing? Please turn it off.
誰の電話が鳴り続けているのですか？電源を切ってください。
