senior citizen: a person more than 65 years old

Son: How was the picnic? Sorry I couldn't go. I finished work too late. 

Mother: Most of the people at the picnic were senior citizens. I didn't know I had so many family members. 

*日本語では「高齢者」 old peopleよりもより丁寧な言い方ですね。

息子「ピクニックはどうだった？行かれなくてごめんなさい。仕事が終わるのがとても遅くなってしまったんだよ」
母親「ピクニックに行ったほとんどの人は高齢者だったのよ。こんなに仲間がいるってしらなかったわ。」
